About Warrington Disability Partnership

Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP) is an internationally acclaimed user led charity. With over 30 years’ experience of developing and delivering mobility and independent living services, our aim is to support disabled people and people living with long term health conditions.

Who Are We?

We are a user led charity. The majority of our trustees, staff and volunteers have lived experience of disability and caring. We are one of a hand full of Disability Confident Leader accredited organisation in Warrington.

Our team of staff and volunteers believe that information, advice and guidance enabling choice and control are the main keys to independent living. Since our launch in 1991 we have designed, developed and now deliver, 27 mobility and independent living services, many of which are based in our headquarters in the Warrington Centre for Independent Living (CIL).

The CIL was refurbished in 2010 at a total cost of over £1.4million. It includes several open office spaces, a community café, a large mobility and independent living showroom and sales area, a changing places toilet, a mobility test track, an IT training suite, several meeting rooms, the Smart Flat assistive technology centre and mobility workshop and service centre.

Our teams of advisors offer support on employment, training, education, direct payments and payroll services, energy efficiency, long term health conditions including Long-Covid and Chronic Pain, disability help-line, community engagement and fundraising, and advice on welfare benefits. Our Access Advisors offer advice and support on making buildings and facilities suitable for the needs of disabled people, and our trainers offer a range of disability awareness training programmes.

Other services include a Shopmobility service in Warrington Town Centre and Birchwood Shopping Centre, an accessible holiday homes in Pensarn North Wales, an accessible canal boat, wheelchair and equipment loans, and monthly meetings of our Staying Connected Disability Forum, which brings together representatives from a wide range of local support groups and services, as well as individuals.

For over three decades we have been actively involved in local, regional and national strategic developments. We have represent the views of disabled people in design and planning of new build and refurbishment projects totalling over a billion pound.

Our social enterprise, The Disability Trading Company, offers a wide range of mobility and independent living solutions from four retail outlets, plus a Mobility Workshop and Service Centre, a Recycling Project LovedB4 and the Galleries Community Café.

For the past 34 years we have organised the internationally acclaimed Disability Awareness Day (DAD), which is acknowledged as the worlds’ largest, voluntary led, pan disability event.
